Before You Arrive

.

If your pet is having any anesthesia, dental or oral procedures, surgery, imaging (x-rays or ultrasound), or any other laboratory diagnostic procedures or treatments, then unless you have been advised by the doctor to proceed differently, you should proceed as follows.

.

Food & Water

.
Remove all food after 8 pm and do not feed in the morning. Your pet should have a stomach that is empty of food upon arrival. Food in the stomach and intestinal tract may sometimes create unnecessary risks during anesthesia, can skew laboratory results, and obscure things we wish to see during imaging.

.
Leave water down and available. We do not want your pet coming in for surgery already dehydrated.

.

Medications

.

Giving medications on time is very important.  This is extremely important as many tests and procedures are based upon the timeliness of medications.

.

If the medication will be due before you arrive, give it on time.  If you need to give it with a treat, you may do so, just use the smallest amount of treat you can.

.

If the medication won't be due until after your arrival, bring it with you, and we will give it here (see below).

.

Even if you don't expect that the medications will need to be given while your pet is in the hospital, bring any medications your pet is currently taking anyway.

.

Except do not bring heartworm or flea medications.

..

If your pet is only having routine, annual or pediatric, healthy pet Well Care procedures and nothing else, then you may feed and give medications as normal.

.
If you are uncertain as to the action to take, please call us in advance.
